The Kalinowo Water Treatment Plant Storage Expansion Project, Poland

  • Location: Kalinowo, Poland
  • Configuration: 3 * E-MATE 61-A
  • Capacity: 183 kWh
  • Application: PV + Storage Microgrid
  • Year: 2025-2026

Project Overview

Located in Kalinowo, Poland, this municipal water treatment plant relies on a stable, reliable power supply to ensure uninterrupted water service for the local community. To address increasing backup power requirements and deteriorating grid conditions, EENOVANCE expanded the site's existing PV-storage system from 122 kWh to 183 kWh, delivering greater energy resilience while maximizing the value of the original installation.

Challenge

The existing hybrid inverter supported only two battery interfaces, limiting future capacity expansion. The project also required a solution that could be implemented without disrupting daily plant operations. In addition, the upgraded system needed to remain fully compatible with the existing equipment while meeting European safety and reliability standards for long-term outdoor operation.

Solution

EENOVANCE deployed a third E-MATE 61-A battery cabinet together with its self-developed Battery Parallel Junction Box, enabling seamless battery expansion without replacing the existing inverter or modifying its hardware or firmware. The upgraded AC-coupled PV and energy storage system is coordinated by an intelligent EMS that prioritizes solar energy utilization, stores excess photovoltaic power, and provides reliable backup power during grid outages. This innovative solution significantly improved system flexibility while minimizing installation costs and downtime.

Results

Following the expansion, the system's total storage capacity increased by 50%, extending full-load backup time from approximately 2.5 hours to over 4 hours. The optimized energy management strategy reduced diesel generator operation by around 70%, improving PV self-consumption while lowering fuel consumption, operating costs, and carbon emissions. By eliminating the need for inverter replacement, the project also saved approximately €15,000 in equipment costs and shortened the estimated payback period from 4 years to about 3 years.

Today, the upgraded system provides reliable, efficient, and sustainable power for one of the region's critical public infrastructure facilities, demonstrating EENOVANCE's ability to deliver cost-effective energy storage solutions that support business continuity, renewable energy integration, and long-term operational value.
